About This Stay

Cozy Cape Cod — Wauwatosa, just west of Downtown Milwaukee

We named her the Cozy Cape Cod because that’s exactly what she is: a proper little Cape on a quiet Wauwatosa street, with a mature shade tree out front, a fire pit out back, and a kitchen we spent a long time getting right. This is a house we love. We’ve raised glasses at that basement bar, burned through a lot of firewood in that back yard, and argued over the pool table more times than we can count — and honestly, the best part of renting it out is getting to hand all of that to someone else for a weekend.

The location is the quiet superpower. You’re on a residential street where the loudest thing at night is the wind in the trees — but you’re only about fifteen minutes from the middle of Downtown Milwaukee, ten from a Brewers game, and about six from the Zoo. Wauwatosa is the sweet spot: park the car in our driveway, sleep well, and be anywhere in the city before your coffee goes cold. Guests here for Froedtert and the Medical College are five minutes from the door.

And Milwaukee itself is a genuinely great city to be turned loose in — which is the whole reason this site exists. It was built by German immigrants who brought their beer halls, their sausage makers and their Gemütlichkeit with them, and you can still walk it: Usinger’s and Mader’s on Old World Third Street, the Pabst Mansion, the caves under Miller Valley, the 1855 Pabst Theater. Then look up: Ascent MKE, twenty-five stories of mass timber and the tallest timber tower in the world, went up downtown in 2022. Old bones, new ideas — that’s Milwaukee, and it’s twenty minutes away.

Come summer, the whole city moves outside. Summerfest is the largest music festival on earth, and the same lakefront grounds host German Fest, Irish Fest and Mexican Fiesta all season — we keep the running list on our Milwaukee events calendar. Add five taprooms worth a Saturday, five kitchens defining the city’s food right now, rooftops and riverside decks, museums and farmers markets, and you have more to do than one stay can hold.

Steal Our Itinerary

Three days we’d plan for you

These are the days we actually run when friends and family come stay. Open one and follow it start to finish.

The German Milwaukee Day

Morning Coffee in the Village of Wauwatosa, then fifteen minutes east to the Miller Brewery tour in Miller Valley — the caves are the good part.

Midday Lunch on Old World Third Street. Sausage from Usinger’s, cheese from the Wisconsin Cheese Mart, or sit down at Mader’s and do it properly.

Afternoon Tour Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery, then walk over to the Pabst Mansion. Detour past Ascent MKE on Kilbourn to see what the city is building now.

Evening A Friday fish fry with the polka band at Lakefront Brewery. Four more taprooms in our brewery guide if you’re still going.

Home Fire pit, nightcap at the basement bar, loser racks the pool table.

The Lakefront & Museums Day

Morning Be at the Milwaukee Art Museum when the Calatrava wings open. Everything worth seeing is in our museums guide.

Midday Graze your way through the Milwaukee Public Market in the Third Ward, then walk the RiverWalk and say hello to the Bronze Fonz.

Afternoon Harley-Davidson Museum, or Discovery World if the kids are running the schedule.

Evening Dinner from our top 5 restaurants, or a rooftop from the patio guide while the sun goes down over the lake.

Home Twenty minutes west and the noise stops. That’s the trade we love about this house.

The Game Day & Festival Day

Morning Saturday market in the Village, or one of the five markets across the city. Bring back something for the grill.

Afternoon Brewers at American Family Field — nine minutes from our driveway, which means you tailgate here first. In August, swap in the Wisconsin State Fair, ten minutes south.

Evening Summerfest or whichever festival owns the lakefront that weekend — check the events calendar. Winter instead? Bucks at Deer District.

Late Rideshare back, big screen on downstairs, replay the highlights from the sectional. This is the room the house was made for.

Wherever you end up, come back and tell us what we should add — the guides on this site are ours, and half of what’s on them came from guests. We can’t wait to share this house, and this city, with you.
