Thirty-third year of the friendliest Halloween event in Milwaukee — costumed actors performing short nature skits at eight lantern-lit stations across a 23-acre nature center. Not scary, genuinely charming. This year’s theme is tricksters.

Good to know: No parking or walk-ups at the Glen. Everyone checks in at MPS Central Services, 5225 W Vliet St, and shuttles over. Concessions are cash only.

The first public beer garden in the US since Prohibition, pouring Munich Hofbräuhaus under the trees along the river. Daily through the fall season.

Milwaukee Public Market

Thirty-plus vendors under one roof in the Third Ward — oysters, tacos, cheese, a bar upstairs. Open daily, and the fallback plan when the weather ruins the other plan.

Milwaukee Admirals hockey

AHL hockey at Panther Arena from October on. Cheap tickets, loud building, and the fastest way to spend a Friday night downtown for under $30.
