Milwaukee's Labor Day Weekend Guide

The last long weekend of summer, mapped out — The RIDE Home at the Harley-Davidson Museum, Third Ward art all weekend, Laborfest at the lakefront on Monday, and where to be in between.

Labor Day weekend is September 5–7, 2026, and Milwaukee treats it like the send-off it is. Here's what's actually happening, day by day, plus what to do with the rest of the time.

Thursday–Sunday: The Ride Home at the Harley-Davidson Museum

Sept 3–6 · Thu–Sat 10am–9pm, Sun 8am–5pm

The RIDE Home

400 W. Canal St.

This is the big one — four days of "motorcycles, music, food, and Milwaukee energy" at the Harley-Davidson Museum campus, running from the Thursday before Labor Day weekend through Sunday. Expect live rock sets (Lita Ford among them), the Urias Family Globe of Death stunt show, BMX performances, a custom motorcycle show, and the Big Unit Poker Run benefiting Fisher House Wisconsin. Friday is First Responders Appreciation Day, with free Museum entry for first responders. Outdoor events and entertainment are free; Museum admission is required for indoor exhibits. No motorcycle ownership required to show up. Full schedule at Harley-Davidson.

Saturday & Sunday: the Third Ward goes all-in on art

Sept 5–6 · 10am–5pm

Third Ward Art Festival

345 N. Broadway

Over 200 juried artists line Broadway for the weekend — ceramics, glass, jewelry, painting, photography, the works. There's a kids' art tent with face painting and sand sculpture, live music, food vendors, and on-site classes if you want to do more than look. Free admission. Presented with the Historic Third Ward Association; full details at Amdur Productions.

Sept 5–6 · 11am–7pm

Marshall Building Art Crawl

207 E. Buffalo St.

A few blocks over, the Marshall Building — home to nearly 20 independent galleries — throws open its doors for the weekend. Saturday brings a public reception from 5–8pm at Gallery 218 on the second floor, with live jazz and free admission. Easy to pair with the Art Festival since they're a short walk apart. Details via Visit Milwaukee.

Day trip option: Kenosha Classic Cruise-In

If you'd rather leave the city Saturday, the Kenosha Classic Cruise-In takes over downtown Kenosha's lakefront with well over a thousand classic cars, free to attend, free to show. It's about 40 minutes south down I-94 — an easy half-day trip and back before dinner.

Monday: Laborfest at the lakefront

Sept 7 · Parade 11am · Festival 11am–4pm

Laborfest

301 W. Michigan St. → Henry Maier Festival Park

One of the largest Labor Day celebrations in the country starts with a parade departing Zeidler Union Square at 11am, winding through downtown before ending at Henry Maier Festival Park on the lakefront. Once there: live music, a classic car show, wrestling, kids' activities, and a union raffle, with food available for purchase. Free and open to the public. Full details from the Milwaukee Area Labor Council.

If you only catch one thing

Make it Laborfest. It's free, it's an easy walk from downtown parking, and the parade-to-festival flow means you can show up any time between 11am and early afternoon and still catch the good part.

Make it a full weekend

Once the scheduled stuff wraps for the day, here's how locals fill the rest of the long weekend:

Getting around and parking

Saturday and Sunday, park for the Third Ward Art Festival and Marshall Building Art Crawl the same way you would for any Third Ward visit — the Milwaukee Public Market lot or the Historic Third Ward parking structure at 212 N. Milwaukee St. are the easiest bets, with metered street parking filling up fast once the festival gets going. Monday, Laborfest draws a crowd to the lakefront — downtown parking structures plus a short walk in is generally simpler than trying to park directly at Henry Maier Festival Park.

A few common questions

Is any of this free?
Yes — the Third Ward Art Festival, Marshall Building Art Crawl, Laborfest, and the Kenosha Cruise-In are all free to attend. Food and drinks are the only real cost.
Is it kid-friendly?
Very. The Art Festival has a dedicated kids' tent, and Laborfest includes children's entertainment and activities alongside the parade.
What if it rains?
The Third Ward events are largely outdoor and weather-dependent; Laborfest has historically gone on rain or shine. Check each event's page day-of if the forecast looks rough.
Best single day to visit if I only have one?
Saturday, if you want to catch both The RIDE Home and the art festival at full energy — they overlap. Monday, if Laborfest and the lakefront are more your speed.

Make a weekend of it

ExposeMKE runs a guest house about 7 miles out — close enough for an easy drive in to the Third Ward or the lakefront, far enough that you come back to a quiet residential street instead of a downtown parking structure.
